SAE J20 — the core industry standard for silicone coolant and heater hose.
SAE J20 R1 Class A: Silicone radiator and coolant hose; covers performance and physical property requirements. Hoses meeting this standard typically also satisfy TMC RP303B and MILSPEC A-A-52426.
MILSPEC A-A-52426: Military specification, frequently cited alongside SAE J20 for heavy-duty and military vehicle silicone hose.
GB/T 18948-2025 (Chinese national standard): Rubber hoses and pure rubber tubing for automotive cooling systems — specification, modified adoption of ISO 4081:2016. Applicable to cooling circuits of internal combustion engine or electric vehicles with a gross vehicle weight below 3.5 t.
FDA 21 CFR 177.2600 — “Rubber articles intended for repeated use.” This regulation lists silicone elastomer types acceptable for food-contact use, including methyl, methyl+vinyl, and methyl+phenyl silicone rubbers. MVQ (methyl vinyl silicone rubber) falls within the scope of this section.
Compliance with 21 CFR 177.2600 requires passing the relevant extraction tests (e.g., chloroform-soluble extractives limits). Material type alone does not constitute a compliance claim.
SAE AS4468G: 125 psi lined silicone hose assemblies for aircraft potable water systems, with an all-fluoropolymer liner.
SAE AS5420G: Heated lined silicone hose assemblies for aircraft potable water systems.
These standards apply only when the product holds the corresponding qualification; they are not applicable to general-purpose industrial Standard Silicone Hose.
Standard Silicone Hose — Specifications & Compliance
Material: Methyl vinyl silicone rubber (MVQ), meeting the silicone elastomer definition under 21 CFR 177.2600.
Construction: Smooth bore and cover, no reinforcement (standard duty).
Temperature Range: -65°F to +350°F (-54°C to +177°C).
Applicable Standards:
SAE J20 R1 Class A — performance and physical characteristics for silicone coolant hose
MILSPEC A-A-52426 — where applicable
FDA 21 CFR 177.2600 compliant formulations available for food-contact applications
Note: Not recommended for mineral oil or solvent service. For reinforced or high-temperature variants, refer to the respective sub-categories.
Detailed SAE J20 performance values (burst pressure, tensile strength, compression set, etc.) are not fully reproduced in publicly available summaries. For a complete spec table, consult the SAE J20 standard text directly or request a conformity test report from the supplier. The framework above is suitable for standard citation and product-page structure, but specific test figures should not be fabricated.
